Audio Production Services at Fortnum, Autumn-Winter 2015

This week we kick off our shoes, and put our feet up while diving into the unopened box of mince pies sent by one of our clients that has been patiently waiting for attention in the kitchen.

It is now the calm after the storm and we are definitely appreciating being able to exhale. With Xmas day approaching,  we can’t help but reflect on how busy this season has been for ourselves and our clients. The goal was to complete each and every Xmas party to perfection and that is exactly what the VNV Live team did! Between 23rd November – 19th December we have worked on no less than 25 Xmas parties in total providing DJs, sound, lighting, staging, draping and more across London & Surrey!

Another blog post is on its way summarising the most interesting Xmas parties shortly after this, but for now I want to reflect on the event that officially kicked off Xmas 2015 for us; the Fortnum & Mason Xmas Window launch which we supplied audio support for on November 2nd. Here’s how we did it!

Our famous and ever in demand white PA system was on show for all to see in Piccadilly, waiting at the Fortnum & Mason shopfront for the Xmas windows to be revealed.

The reason our white speakers were set up was to amplify a wireless handheld microphone that Santa Clause himself would be using to address the excited crowd. If Santa wasn’t at his usual loud pitch the mic would give him the extra volume that he needed.

As well as the white speakers with white stands, on the street we also provided a sound engineer / technician, a mixer and amplifier which allowed us to send the audio to the speakers and control the volume. We also supplied no less than 12 UHF walkie talkies & ear pieces for some of the Fortnum & Mason sales/events teams and the technical team (us) to be able to communicate with each other across 5 floors!

We also had the challenge of being heard but not seen, which was very interesting to work out and cleverly executed. Here’s how we did it…

  1. The mixer and amplifier was set up out of sight in this little storage cupboard next to the ground floor cupcake counter…

Which looked like this from the street outside the shop…

2. Cables were run and speakers put out onto Piccadilly on special stands that do not provide a trip hazard for guests…

3.The mic is checked; all is well. Perfect level, no feedback and Santa gets ready to “Ho! Ho! Ho!”

Santa speaks, welcomes the crowd who cannot contain themselves and gets them all ready for the countdown!

Yay! All is a success and the windows are fully revealed in all their wonderful glory!

Then we take it all down; swiftly, efficiently and safely as soon as the green light is given…

Magic, hot chocolate, mistletoe and mince pies await the shoppers inside…

This day was a lot of fun, and we were surely glad to be a part of it and execute so seamlessly!

Throughout Autumn & Winter 2015 here are a few of the other events we provided our white equipment for at Fortnum & Mason:

PA Hire for Beauty Presentation on Fortnum’s 2nd Floor Beauty Area…

PA Hire for Stephen Webster’s Book Launch on Fortnum’s 2nd Floor Jewellery Area…

PA Hire for a Disaronno exclusive product launch event on Fortnum’s 4th Floor Drawing Room Area…

Do you notice how slick, sharp and smart each set up looks every time we hire it to Fortnum & Mason? You could have the same for your event in the near future too! 🙂

A merry christmas to all from the VNV Live team!
