11 Dec London Calling
On September 4, 2018 my friends gathered in the parking lot of my school to send me and my friend Jessica off to London. I don’t recall ever being so excited for anything in my life. I had never left the United States before and this was an exciting opportunity to start a new chapter of my life in a different country. After an 8-hour flight, I arrived at Heathrow Airport around 6am. I didn’t sleep on the plane because I was just too excited to get to London. And of course, terrified of jetlag, I refused to sleep once I got to my homestay. After forcing myself to stay up for an additional 12 hours, I passed out. I can say proudly though that I did not experience jetlag because of that.
Living in zone 4 allowed me the opportunity to travel a lot. It takes me about an hour to get to school as well as my internship at VNV Live. I still remember on my first day I had to call Dean Carby to figure out exactly where VNV Live was located because I was confused as to how to get into Tobacco Dock. Working at VNV Live has been an interesting experience. Working in the wedding sector was something I never considered, but the planning and coordination is very similar to working in live entertainment. My favorite part of the internship is when I helped with events. Working the EVN Annual Networking Event and setting up a wedding reception at The Decorium were by far the highlights of my internship.
With such a flexible schedule with school and my internship, I was given the opportunity to travel. During my three months I went to eight new countries! For my first time abroad to go to collectively nine countries is insane. All while completing the necessary credits I need to graduate in May. My time abroad is going to be one that I remember and cherish for the rest of my life. From the friends I’ve made while here to the opportunities I’ve had to grow as a person. I feel like I’ve become a more well-rounded individual whose cultural intelligence has improved through the diverse work environment of VNV Live.
